• Do I need to install anything?
  No. The sync will happen automatically in the background. 
   

• What exactly will sync with Outlook?
  Your official school academic calendar from MyBUCKLEY will automatically sync to your primary Outlook calendar. This includes your courses, and the block schedule rotation day, and advisor to name a few.
   

• Will my personal Outlook events be affected?
  No. Any personal or work events you’ve already created in Outlook will remain unchanged.
   

• Can I still create my own events or meetings in Outlook? 
  Yes. You can continue to add, edit, and delete events in Outlook as usual. 
   

• When will my department be rolled out?
  The rollout is being done in phases by department. You’ll receive a notification when your department’s sync is live.
   

• Does this impact staff? 
  If you have an advisory, that advisory will be synchronized to your Outlook calendar.
   

• What if something doesn’t look right after the sync? 
  Please reach out to the Technology Help Desk via email, helpdesk@buckley.org. 
   

• Will synced events include a default event reminder? 
  No. Synced events will not include reminders. This is a global default setting that applies to all events and all users.
   

• What if I’m already subscribed to a MyBUCKLEY webcal feed? 
  A webcal feed lets you view your academic schedule and other school calendars, but it creates a separate calendar instead of adding events directly into your primary calendar. Having your events in your primary calendar is important, since it allows colleagues to see your availability when scheduling meetings.
   

• Can I edit the synced events to my liking?
  Synced events should not be edited because daily updates will overwrite the event. 
   

• Can I have the tool sync to my Google Calendar instead? 
  Not at this time. The tool uses the school's designated email and calendar platform. Buckley’s current email and calendar platform is Microsoft.
   

• Will I be able to see my colleagues’ availability more easily?
  Yes. Once synced, you’ll be able to view colleagues’ free/busy times directly in Outlook when scheduling meetings. A separate email with more information will be sent soon. 
   

• Can we sync academic calendars for students as well?
  Yes. This will be implemented in a phased approach soon.

Student FAQs

• How do I view my schedule?
  We highly recommend downloading the Microsoft Outlook app (available on iOS and Android) and logging in with your school credentials. Open the Outlook app and click "Calendar." This provides the most reliable and real-time view of your schedule, including any last-minute updates.​

• Will my homework assignments and due dates show up on this calendar?
  No. SchoolCal currently syncs your time schedule (where you need to be and when). You should continue to check MyBUCKLEY assignment center or your class pages for specific assignment details and due dates.

• Can other students see my specific class schedule?
  No. By default, other students and faculty can only see your "Free/Busy" status—meaning they can see that you are busy during a block, but they cannot see what class you are in unless you explicitly share your calendar details with them.

 

• Can I change the color of my classes in Outlook?
  While Outlook allows you to categorize events by color, please be aware that the daily system sync may overwrite these personalizations. We recommend using the calendar primarily for reference and adding your own color-coded personal events around the official schedule if needed.

 

• Will my sports practices and games be included?
  At this time, the sync includes your academic courses, advisory, and the block rotation. Coming soon, in the meantime please check the Athletics calendar.​

 

• Can I add my own events, like club meetings or study groups?
  Absolutely. Your Outlook calendar is yours to manage. We encourage you to add personal reminders, club meetings, and study blocks. Just be sure not to double-book yourself over a synced class time!

 

• Can I sync this to my personal Google or Apple Calendar instead?
  SchoolCal is designed to work within the school's Microsoft ecosystem to ensure data privacy and accuracy. While you can view your Outlook calendar on an iPhone or Android using the native mail apps, the sync itself happens on your school Outlook account.

 

• Why don't I get a notification on my personal device(s) before my class starts?
  While students should have their phones is lockers during school hours...
  We have turned off default notifications for synced class events to prevent your device(s) from buzzing constantly throughout the school day.
